Bill Dalley, Chief of Police
Chief Dalley was appointed as Winnemucca Chief of Police in the fall of 2017 by Mayor Di An Putnam. Since taking office, Chief Dalley found it to be a great benefit being able to incorporate his progressive style of management, along with a well- rounded point of view acquired not only from his extensive career in law enforcement, but also from experience obtained in the private business sector.
Prior to beginning a career in law enforcement, Dalley worked in construction for many years. He acquired his first contractor’s license in California and maintains his current contractor’s license in the state of Nevada.
Chief Dalley began his law enforcement career in 1988, and has served exclusively in Nevada ever since. In 1988, Dalley’s career started in Lincoln County, after attending a Category III POST training held in Carson City.
In 1989, Dalley accepted a patrol position with White Pine County Sheriff’s Office and completed a Category I POST academy.
In 1992, Dalley accepted a position as an investigator with the Eastern Nevada Narcotics Task Force, which served Lincoln, Eureka, and White Pine Counties. While working as an investigator for the task force, Dalley was instrumental in acquiring funding to purchase a drug canine, thus becoming the only K9 officer/handler for the combined three counties.
In June of 1995, Dalley accepted a patrol position with Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office and worked as a patrol deputy until being promoted to patrol sergeant a few years later. Not long afterwards, Dalley received a promotion to the position of Lieutenant overseeing day-to-day operations for all patrol functions.
In 2004, Dalley retired from law enforcement to pursue his private business full time.
Three years later in 2007, Dalley was offered, and accepted a position as Commander with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
In 2013, Dalley resigned from the position of commander to accept a position with the Winnemucca Police Department as a Captain overseeing all operations for the department. This position was later re-classified as Deputy Chief.
During his tenure in law enforcements, Dalley has acquired a vast array of experience in training which included a much sought after and prestigious selection to the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He also attended the Rural Executive Management Institute in Colorado.
Chief Dalley credits the excellent reputation of the Winnemucca Police Department to the hard-working men and women of the department who dedicate their lives to serving the citizens of this community. Chief Dalley, along with his staff and officers share in the same vision, mission and goals in providing the highest standard of service to the public while ensuring the safety of all those that live in, or visit Winnemucca.
Chief Dalley considers it an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Winnemucca.
